As a cold front moves into the region this evening and overnight, severe weather will become possible. Very large hail is the primary threat. However, tornadoes and damaging winds can never be ruled out. We will be tracking this and have more updates throughout the day.
Those that have been in the weather community or social media business know that whenever there is a risk or signs of at least cold air, more or less snow in the forecast, these trolls come out in the social media world in full force. In both situations, they populate the social media world like the bubonic plague. This could be seen as a reflection of the quality of our country, but sadly, we must put this to an abrupt end here before it starts to become a regular problem on this website.
Now don't take it the wrong way; We still love for you to comment if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or jokes, but we will require you to use a Facebook login. By doing this, this will show a real name associated with your comment. What I have learned over the years is that most of these trolls are cowards and hide behind computer screens with a fake name, so this could be a defense mechanism to scare some of them away. Again, this is not a personal attack on any individual. We still welcome negative feedback or criticism, but we do not allow personal attacks, profanity, hate speech, or racial slurs. We value every opinion here, but remember to keep it classy. This will allow us to actually focus on the part about forecasting the weather rather than policing the blog for these trolls. Thank you for your understanding. Donovan Neal Lead Forecaster Storm Specialist Officials in Marion County, Texas has confirmed the death of a 40-year-old woman. The body was found on the campgrounds surrounding the Lake O' The Pines reservoir.
This was the caused by severe storms moving through East Texas during the pre-dawn hours Sunday morning. Contrary to what was initially reported, there was only one death in the area, not four. "Due to the tremendous debris field and heavy rain, it was difficult to assess.", says Marion County Sheriff, David McKnight. Please check back for more updates. A survey crew for the National Weather Service will travel to Marion County today to assess whether the damage in the vicinity of the death was the result of a tornado or damaging straight-line winds. On Saturday, two tornado-related fatalities broke a record long streak for the amount of days without tornado deaths.
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-2 tornado ended the life of a 79 year old woman Saturday afternoon in Logan County, Kentucky, which marks the first U.S tornado death since May 16, 2017. This was a 283-day long streak that sadly ended yesterday. The 2nd longest known record was 220 days, dating back to mid 2012, lasting through January 2013. Better warnings, better lead times, better understanding, better knowledge, and sheer luck are the main factors as to why the streak lasted so long. Hopefully, a new and hopefully longer streak begins today. However, severe weather appears likely on Wednesday, which could bring damaging winds and tornadoes to the Deep South. Stay tuned... Update - Three tornado touchdowns were confirmed during a damage survey this afternoon from this morning's batch of strong thunderstorms. Luckily, all of them had winds below 90 mph. Here is the latest from the NWS Fort Worth... Godley (Johnson County)
